20 schools in Dehradun to remain closed due to President’s visit

In view of President Droupadi Murmu’s arrival in Dehradun, 20 selected schools in the city will remain closed on Monday. The decision has been taken to ensure security arrangements during the President’s visit and aerial inspection. According to an order issued by the District Magistrate’s office, the closure applies only to the schools located along the route of the aerial survey. All other schools in the district will operate as usual. The order, issued by additional district magistrate (Finance/Revenue) Krishna Kumar Mishra on the recommendation from the Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh. The schools that will remain closed are Brightlands (Cantt Road), Saraswati School (Taimurabad Road), Cambrian Hall (Cantt Road), Heritage School (Dalanwala Chowk), Scholar’s Home (Rajpur Road), Convent of Jesus & Mary (Convent Road), Welham Girls School (Dalanwala), The Asian School (Vasant Vihar), Welham Boys School (Circular Road), Doon Cambridge School (Patel Nagar), Brightlands School (Chakrata Road), Manav Bharti School (Nehru Colony), Hilton’s School (Rajpur Road), SGRR School (General Mahadev Singh Road), Marshall School (East Canal Road), The Aryan School (Rajpur Road), St. Joseph’s Academy (Laxmi Road), The Doon Global School (Jhajhra), Sherwood School (Near Colonel Tiraha), and Olympus High School (Sheeshambada Road). Besides this, the district administration also declared certain areas as silent zones following a request from Dehradun Police. Sound levels in these zones have been restricted to 40 decibels. The silent zones include the stretch on Rajpur Road from Mussoorie Diversion to Brahma Kamal Chowk, extending 100 metres on both sides of the road and an area within a 300-metre radius around the Vidhan Sabha premises. The order came to effect from 10 AM on Sunday which will remain till 4 PM on Monday or until one hour after the President’s departure. Violations of the order will invite legal action under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Murmu is on a three-day visit to Uttarakhand. She reached Haridwar on Sunday to attend the second convocation of Patanjali University. The president reached Dehradun in the evening. She is scheduled to address the Uttarakhand Legislative Assembly on Monday at Dehradun on the silver jubilee of the State. She will also attend a function to commemorate the 125 years of the establishment of the Raj Bhawan in Nainital on the same day. Murmu will also visit the Neem Karoli Baba Ashram at Kainchi Dham. She will also attend the 20th convocation of Kumaon University at Nainital on Tuesday before her return to New Delhi.
