Rajya Sabha member Naresh Bansal raised the demand for development of rural tourism in Uttarakhand, construction of Ghats along the Yamuna river and daily Arti while speaking during the zero hour in the Upper House.

During the zero hour on Thursday, Bansal said that rural tourism is based on nature, which makes Uttarakhand a preferred destination for nature-lovers. Citing the historical, religious and natural wealth of the State, he said that Uttarakhand attracts tourists from around the world with these aspects and the unique features resulting from the Ganga, Yamuna, Saraswati and Sarayu rivers, among others. While facilities are satisfactory on the banks of the Ganga, concrete arrangements should be made for construction of Ghats, bathing and daily Arti along the Yamuna. “There are various identified locations and undeveloped villages in Uttarakhand which can be developed.

Developing tourism will provide a tremendous boost to the local economy. Rural tourism will emerge as a major source of the region’s development in the future,” he opined. The MP urged the Union Tourism minister and the Centre to focus on rural tourism, developing Ghats along the Yamuna and encouraging ancient temple circuits in the State.
