Three new railway lines costing Rs 40,384 crore have been sanctioned in Uttarakhand. This was informed by the Union Railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday in response to a question raised by Nainital MP Ajay Bhatt who sought project-wise details of funds allocated to the State for new railway projects over the past three years and the current financial year. Responding in the House,

Vaishnaw said that the Deoband–Roorkee new railway line project, spanning 27 kilometres, has already been completed. This strategic route will reduce the travel distance between Delhi and Dehradun by approximately 40 kilometres, significantly improving rail connectivity and reducing travel time. He also shared updates on the Rishikesh–Karnaprayag railway line project, a critical component of the Char Dham all-weather rail connectivity.

Out of the 16 main line tunnels proposed on this route, which collectively span 105 kilometres, construction of 13 tunnels has already been completed, he said. Bhatt said that these developments mark a major boost to railway infrastructure in Uttarakhand, aimed at improving access to remote regions, enhancing tourism potential and strengthening economic connectivity across the State.
