CM administers oath to UPC’s office bearers, stresses on journalist’s role in combating fake news

Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami stressed on the role of the traditional press in combating fake news in today’s digital age. “We need journalists who report correctly and impartially,” he said during the swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected executive committee of the Uttaranchal Press Club here on Friday. CM administered the oath of office and secrecy to the new office bearers.
Dhami highlighted that UPC has been serving as a powerful platform for fostering democratic awareness in the State. “The club has consistently upheld its dignity, impartiality and credibility of media,” he said and added that responsible journalism acts as a crucial bridge between the government and the public.
He further commended Uttarakhand’s journalists for their courage in fulfilling their duties despite challenging circumstances. “The State government is sensitive to the problems faced by journalists,” Dhami said.
He said that numerous measures have been taken to ensure their safety and provide them with health insurance. “Moreover, efforts are underway to enhance pensions for journalists and to provide accommodation for those coming to Dehradun from different districts through the Information department,” he said.
He also said that he had advocated for the construction of a building for UPC in the Cabinet which was later approved and assured that the building would be constructed as a model facility soon.
He said that work is underway to modernise media centres and empower press clubs, adding that the provisions for these media centers would be included in the 2026-27 general budget.
The newly elected president of UPC, Ajay Singh Rana expressed gratitude towards the CM for his commitment to the welfare of journalists and the cabinet’s decision regarding the construction of the club building.
Notably, CM administered the oath of office and secrecy to the newly elected officials which includes Rana, senior vice president Gajendra Singh Negi, junior vice president Soban Singh Gusai, general secretary Yogesh Semwal, joint secretary Shivesh Sharma, Meena Negi, treasurer Manish Dangwal, auditor Vijay Joshi and executive members Virendra Dangwal ‘Parth’, Manmohan Lakhera, Rashmi Khatri, Sulochana Payal, Manoj Singh Jayara, Harish Thapliyal, Manbar Singh Rawat, Om Prakash Joshi and Himanshu Joshi.
