Complaint filed over offensive social media remark against police officer

A complaint has been filed at Nagar Kotwali police station against a man for allegedly making objectionable remarks against a senior Uttarakhand police officer on social media.

According to the complaint, the accused, identified as Keshav Thalwal, posted a controversial comment on his Facebook page ‘KESAV SINGH / Jaago Uttarakhand’ on April 7. The post was directed at the inspector general of police (IG), Garhwal, Rajiv Swaroop and reportedly contained offensive and provocative language.

The complainant, Sagar Sonkar stated that the remarks have hurt the dignity of the senior officer and also tarnished the image of the police department. He further said that such statements on public platforms could create unrest and provoke people.

In his complaint, Sonkar requested the police to register a case against the accused under relevant sections of law and take strict legal action. Police officials said that the matter is being examined and appropriate action will be taken as per law after investigation.
