The strike of lawyers in the city continued on Tuesday at the court and registry office. The lawyers are demanding the constructions of chambers in the new premises and land for their chambers. On Tuesday, they blocked Haridwar Road outside the court with a silent protest from 10:30 am to 3 pm, which caused major traffic jams and created trouble for the public. Today, the lawyers will also take out a rally to press for their demands.
The lawyers warned that their strike will continue on Wednesday as well and they might block the road again. They said the government is not supporting them in getting land for chamber construction. The lawyers want the land of the old district judge office to be given to them for building chambers. They have been protesting on this issue for a long time.
The strike has affected work of the court and registry for a week now with multitudes including litigants facing problems. Dehradun Bar Association president Manmohan Kndawal and secretary Rajbeer Singh Bisht said that the protest will continue till their demands are met.
They also said that if a solution is not found soon, the agitation will be intensified.
