While delivering a special lecture on the topic of Developed India 2047 organised by Vardhman College, Bijnor, the head of the department of Botany at Kumaun University, Prof Lalit Tiwari spoke on the impact of climate change on biodiversity. “As we all must work together to make India a developed nation by 2047, marking the 100th anniversary of our independence, we must also work on mitigating the adverse impact of climate change, particularly on reducing the steady rise of temperature,” he said.

He further said that India will reach an economy of 30 to 40 trillion dollars, with an 8 percent GDP by 2047. “Biodiversity contributes 11 percent to the world’s economy each year and India is one of the 12 mega diversity countries. However, climate change is posing the greatest challenge today,” he warned.

Stressing on the need to
reduce carbon emissions and prevent migration, he said that the pressure on cities must be reduced and the use of solar energy and wind energy will have to be increased. “Furthermore, 140 million hectares of land in India will need to be converted into forests. It is the responsibility of every citizen to fulfil our environmental responsibility. We need to promote green economy and ecosystem enforcement,” he added.

On this occasion, Tiwari was felicitated. Aside from the principal of the college, a large number of professors and students were present.
