The Uttarakhand Kranti Dal (UKD) has announced support for electric bus drivers working under Dehradun Smart City Limited (DSCL), alleging mental harassment, discrimination and arbitrary service termination of drivers, on Sunday. The party said that it will raise the issue with the authorities and the contractor, adding that it may launch a protest if the drivers’ demands are not addressed.
The UKD leaders said local electric bus drivers have complained of pressure and harassment at work. They also alleged discrimination in duty and route allocation. As per the party, some drivers were removed from service without proper notice, an opportunity to explain their position or a fair inquiry.
The UKD central general secretary Rajendra Bisht said that the party would not tolerate injustice against local youth over employment and dignity. He said the management should hold talks with the drivers and find a solution. Bisht said the party would meet Smart City officials and the concerned contractor through a delegation. He said the UKD would take the matter to the streets if the drivers were not given justice. The UKD district president Prabeen Chand Ramola said the party could consider stronger democratic steps, including a road blockade, if necessary. The UKD also demanded a fair inquiry into termination cases and transparency in duty and route allocation.
