Fund crunch: Once thriving Campus School now battling to survive

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/ Pantnagar

The CBSE-affiliated Campus School operating in the campus of GB Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, Pantnagar- the country’s first agricultural university- has been struggling to survive, given its declining financial health and lack of students. Things are such that the teachers and the staff are not receiving their salaries due to grim fund constraints.

Following the university’s establishment in 1960, the Campus School came into existence in 1970 to provide quality education to the children of the faculty and staff.

The school flourished rapidly as centre of excellence due to the strong management and high-quality teaching provided by the school. The school’s reputation was such that children from not just the Pantnagar but from neighbouring towns would come for study.  Several buses used to transport children from other towns to and from the school.

The school began to be embroiled in controversies about 20 years ago. Yet, the number of students remained strong. The school’s condition deteriorated rapidly since 2012. As a result, the number of students which used to be 2400 dropped to around 700. This drop in student numbers resulted in a drop in students’ fees, plunging it into financial crisis. The crisis kept deepening with time, stripping it of its former reputation, and the downward curve continues with no hope of revival in sight.
