GBPUAT hosts skill development training for women farmers

The All India Coordinated Research Project on Agriculture, a programme of GB Pant University of Agriculture and Technology, in collaboration with the ICAR-Central Institute for Women in Agriculture, Bhubaneswar, organised a one-day training programme at Devbhoomi College of Education, Banbasa (Tanakpur) on Saturday. Approximately 100 women farmers from the area participated in the training. Among those present at it were
the unit coordinator of All India Coordinated Research Project, Manisha Gehlot and a number of scientists. In the inaugural address, Gehlot gave detailed information about the programme.
The chief guest, Alka Goyal, the dean, Community Science College, encouraged women farmers to produce value-added products and sell them through various fairs and groups.
The chief development officer, Ganesh Singh Khati lauded the event and described such trainings as beneficial for remote areas of the mountains. During the training session, the assistant agriculture officer, Garima Upadhyay informed women farmers about various schemes rolled out by Agriculture department, such as Kisan Samman Nidhi, subsidies and special provisions for women farmers to enable them to maximize their benefits. A scientist at the Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Nirmala Bhatt conducted a practical demonstration on mushroom production, detailing important information on advanced mushroom seed production methods, disease and pest management and marketing. The university’s registrar, Deepa Vinay discussed the participants’ agriculture-related issues.
At the end of the programme, all women farmers were distributed agricultural tool kits containing essential equipment for agricultural work. The organisers stated that through such training programmes, continuous efforts are being made to empower women farmers and make them self-reliant.
