Chief secretary Anand Bardhan directed officials to begin advance preparations for the Char Dham Yatra -2026. He gave the order to officials during his visit to Kedarnath Dham in Rudraprayag district on Wednesday, where he conducted a detailed on-site inspection of the ongoing reconstruction and development works.
During the visit, he reviewed the progress, quality and execution of various construction projects in the area. CS received detailed information from district magistrate Prateek Jain regarding all ongoing activities at the shrine. He instructed officials to ensure that all construction projects maintain high standards of quality, aesthetics and religious significance. Bardhan said that the portals of Kedarnath will close for the winter season on October 23. He emphasised that, even after the closure of the portal, the shrine area should be fully prepared for security measures, material preservation and the maintenance of ongoing projects in anticipation of snowfall.
He directed all the linear departments to plan ahead for all arrangements, ensuring that pilgrims receive enhanced facilities during the next pilgrimage season. He highlighted the importance of strengthening coordination among departments related to electricity, drinking water, health, communications, transportation, security and disaster management.
Additionally, DM Rudraprayag Jain informed the CS that all departments involved in the Kedarnath Yatra are collaborating closely. He stated that Kedarnath Dham has become a symbol of reconstruction and revival throughout the country. The government’s aim, he mentioned, is not only to focus on physical construction but also to ensure a balanced combination of faith and facilities, providing devotees with a sacred, safe and divine experience.
