MD, UJVNL directs uninterrupted power generation during monsoon

The managing director of uttarakhand Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited (UJVNL), Ajay Kumar Singh conducted a detailed field inspection of Maneri Bhali Hydroelectric Project-I and Maneri Bhali Hydroelectric Project-II located in Uttarkashi on Saturday. He also comprehensively reviewed monsoon management, security arrangements of the projects, power generation, silt management, operational status of dams and power houses and disaster management preparations with the monsoon gaining momentum.
Notably, the amount of silt and debris in the Bhagirathi river has increased significantly due to incessant rainfall in Uttarkashi district over the past several days. Furthermore, landslides and road blockages have occurred at many locations, leaving the whole area vulnerable.
Singh directed maximum power generation be ensured by operating all machines and equipment within their safe operating limits and by scientific and efficient use of available water, so that uninterrupted and reliable power supply can be provided to the state even in adverse weather conditions.
In view of landslides, heavy rainfall, flash floods and other potential risks, he directed to ensure 24×7 surveillance, Early Warning System (EWS), Automatic Weather Station (AWS), real-time monitoring at all vulnerable locations and continuous availability of necessary equipment and human resources. He laid special emphasis on maintaining continuous coordination with the local administration, District Disaster Management Authority and other concerned agencies, so that prompt and effective action can be ensured in case of any emergency.
