The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) is conducting a baseline survey on sanitation and solid waste management in all 100 wards through 100 self-help groups (SHGs) so that schemes can be implemented more effectively on the basis of accurate data.
As part of the process, Dehradun municipal commissioner Namami Bansal carried out a surprise inspection in the Dalanwala ward on Thursday. She got updates about the status of the work done by the SHG members engaged in the survey and instructed them to complete the task within the stipulated time frame. In a separate interaction earlier, Bansal also held a meeting with the members of the Citizen Forum to discuss a joint plan for making the city clean and green.
During the meeting, Rinku, representing the forum, raised issues related to solid waste management and door-to-door collection. The commissioner noted the concerns and assured them of taking necessary measures.
She also discussed opportunities and future possibilities in the area of sanitation and solid waste management, stressing the need for public participation in the process. She stated that MCD is consistently making efforts to strengthen transparency and efficiency in waste management with the support of all sections of society.
