Spending MPLAD funds in other States betrayal with U’khand’s people: Godiyal

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/ Dehradun

Pradesh Congress Committee president Ganesh Godiyal has questioned BJP MPs of the State for spending funds of their MP Local Area Development (MPLAD) scheme outside the State.

In a statement on Tuesday, the PCC president said that as per the Right to Information (RTI) data, the BJP MPs have spent crores of rupees in works such as construction of schools, community halls, roads and tube wells in Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and other States from their MPLAD funds which is unfortunate. Terming it as betrayal with the people of Uttarakhand, the PCC president said the villages of Uttarakhand are deprived of development. He said that the argument given by BJP MPs that the people of Uttarakhand origin live in other parts of the country is not acceptable because the people of Uttarakhand have elected them as their MPs.

Godiyal said that districts such as Dehradun, Tehri, Almora, Pauri and Chamoli are still lacking basic facilities such as roads, drinking water and education but it appears the priority of BJP MPs is not Uttarakhand but political interests.

He said that the BJP MPs of Uttarakhand should answer for this betrayal and the Union government should order an inquiry into the misuse of MPLAD funds. “The people of Uttarakhand are witnessing everything and will respond at appropriate time. This is not development but an open betrayal with the people of Uttarakhand,’’ he said.
