Health secretary R Rajesh Kumar has said that a modern, trained and certified allied health workforce is needed for a mountainous and disaster sensitive State like Uttarakhand. He said this while chairing a meeting held recently to constitute Uttarakhand State Allied and Healthcare Council in the State. The council will be set up under the National Commission for Allied and Healthcare Professions Act – 2021.

Addressing the meeting, Kumar said that the constitution of the council will ensure the quality of the educational institutes and help in preparation of trained manpower.

In the meeting elaborate discussion was held on the shape, future needs and scope of the council. It was decided that a search committee will select the names of the chairman and the members of the council. In the meeting the Health secretary directed the officers that arrangements for initial budget, office structure, and technical assistance of human resources should be made available.

As of now, paramedical education in the State is operated under the Uttarakhand Paramedical Act 2009 and the State Medical Faculty. At present 22 subjects at graduate and post graduate level are being taught. After the implementation of the national act all these courses will be standardised and made employment and skill based. In the new act 56 types of health services under 10 categories have been identified.

Kumar said that the constitution of the council will help in uniformity in the paramedical and allied education and standardisation of curriculum. The registration and licensing process will become easy and transparent.
