Former chief minister Harish Rawat has said that he will soon undertake an extensive tour of the State to find the answer to the question of why Congress lost the Vidhan Sabha elections of 2017 and 2022 in the State.

In a post on social media, the former CM who recently created a commotion in the Congress party following his decision to take a break from politics, said that the decision was a small personal decision to sooth his restless mind.  He said that many people raised questions on his decision to take an earned leave and some discussions were also held on it. Rawat said that the question as to why Congress lost the elections of 2017 and 2022 which were fought under his leadership, is being raised consistently.

Rawat said that after thorough brainstorming and discussion, he had decided to take on the Hindutva based nationalism- whose strength was in dividing people- with Uttarakhandiyat which was inclusive and based on local culture, language, cuisine and costume.

“I was the flag bearer of the concept of Uttarakhandiyat and since we lost the elections, the reason for the loss should come from the people. I will undertake an extensive tour of the State to find an answer to this question,’’ he said.

Rawat further said that he will start the tour from Dharali in Uttarkashi on April 15.
