PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun

Dehradun district magistrate Savin Bansal warned that illegal child labour activities of any kind will not be tolerated in the district. He said this following the rescue of seven child labourers by relevant departmental teams on Tuesday under a campaign against child labour.

A comprehensive campaign to eliminate child labour is underway in the district with teams having been formed to conduct simultaneous intensive inspections and raids at various locations. According to the officials, the Labour department, in collaboration with the Police department and NGOs, formed joint teams that were active in the field from Tuesday morning searching for minors working in various markets, industrial units, hotels, Dhabas, workshops and other commercial establishments in the city. The teams raided various establishments, resulting in the rescue of seven child labourers. This included two child labourers from establishments in Vikasnagar, three from Patelnagar and two from Sahaspur. The rescued minors were medically examined and presented before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) at Kedarpuram. First Information Reports (FIRs) were lodged against the owners of the establishments at the respective police stations, they added.

Bansal stated, “The district administration is committed to eliminating child labour. Those who deprive children of their childhood and education will not be spared. Such campaigns will continue on a regular basis.” He also urged the community to report any instances of child labour to the district administration or relevant departments immediately.
