Tharali disaster: Health department on high alert

Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has directed the administration to ensure immediate and effective health services in the disaster affected Tharali and other areas. On the order of the CM, the Health department has come into an alert mode.
The authorities airlifted six patients with serious injuries from Tharali to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Rishikesh. Apart from them, treatment of more than two dozen injured was done at the site of the disaster.
Following the CM’s order, the Health secretary R Rajesh Kumar took information about the disaster affected areas from the Health Services director general Dr Sunita Tamta and chief medical officer of Chamoli, Dr Abhishek Gupta. He said that the teams of the Health department acted swiftly to reach the affected site and not only treated the injured but also performed their counselling of the people affected psychologically from the disaster.
Kumar said that the Chamoli CMO has been directed to monitor the situation from ground zero till the situation normalises. He said that at present four medical officers, six staff nurses, one pharmacist, one ambulance driver with lifesaving medicines have been actively deployed. One medical officer from primary health centre (PHC) Dewal has also been sent to the affected area.
The secretary said that the State government is with the disaster affected and averred that there will be no laxity in the relief and rescue operation and all the medical units have been directed to remain in the highest state of alert.
