Authorities assess damage as lake drains at Syanachatti

The lake formed in the Yamuna river at Syanachatti in Uttarkashi district has been drained considerably since Friday evening with the authorities channelising the flow of the river. The buildings, roads and other infrastructure submerged by the water has now appeared above the water though silt and other debris have been left behind.

Uttarkashi district magistrate Prashant Arya reached the area on Saturday to inspect the damage. Yamunotri MLA Sanjay Dobhal was also present. Arya directed officials to assess the damage caused to government and private properties and submit a detailed report. The agencies concerned have been directed to submit an estimate and start work on reconstruction of the bridges damaged at Kupda and Kunshala.

The DM said that all facilities are being restored at Syanachatti, adding that the authorities stand with the affected families and traders in this difficult time. He also directed the various departments concerned to expedite relief works and ensure the availability of essential items in the affected area.
