Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that the Union Budget 2026-27 presented on Sunday is not only a roadmap for Atmanirbhar Bharat but will also speed up development in the State. Addressing the media at the Bharatiya Janata Party State office here on Monday, Dhami opined that the budget presented by Union Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman is a complete budget towards making the nation self-reliant. The budget aims to ensure that development is not limited to cities but also reaches the rural and border areas.
“The focus on tier-II and III cities in the budget brings immense possibilities for balanced and regional development for States like Uttarakhand. We will try to ensure the State’s participation on a large scale in the India Semiconductor Mission 2.0. A Rs 10,000 crore growth fund has been facilitated for making the MSME sector a global champion while a top-up of Rs 2,000 crore has been made to the Atmanirbhar Bharat fund. All these sectors bring immense possibilities for Uttarakhand,” the CM said.
Referring to benefits for Uttarakhand in the budget, Dhami said that the State is likely to get upto 24,000 crore from Central taxes and schemes in the financial year 2026-27, which is Rs 1,841 crore than the amount last year. This will boost the development of additional infrastructural facilities, investment and employment generation in the State, he said.
Special focus on mountain States signals at balanced development considering the geographical features of Uttarakhand. The important announcement of mountain trails for States like Uttarakhand will lend a new direction to tourism, local livelihood and employment for the youths, he said.
Mountain trekking trails scheme will boost adventure and eco-tourism in Uttarakhand and also boost employment for locals. Homestays, guides, transport and local products will get new markets while the 12-week hybrid mode standardised training programme with the help IIM will enable the start of skill development of 10,000 guides in 20 tourist destinations. All these measures bring major scope for employment and livelihood in the State. Dhami further said that the focus on tier-II and III cities will provide cities like Dehradun, haldwani, Rudrapur and Haridwar to become new centres of economic activities. “The budget is a document which opens up development opportunities for a mountain State like Uttarakhand. It will provide a fillip to tourism, employment, education and the local economy,” the CM added.
