A group of 84 trainee Indian Police Service (IPS) officers from the 78th batch of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy visited the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) headquarters in Jolly Grant, Dehradun, as part of their training programme.
During the visit on the weekend, SDRF commandant Arpan Yaduvanshi explained the working system, structure and quick response methods of the force. He said that in a sensitive state like Uttarakhand, strong coordination between SDRF, the State Emergency Operations Center and the National Disaster Response Force is very important during emergencies.
The officers were also informed about major rescue missions like the Silkyara tunnel operation and operations in Dharali and Reni areas, which helped them understand the challenges of working in difficult terrain and bad weather. The SDRF team also gave a live demonstration of modern search and rescue equipment. The trainee officers learned about new technologies used during disasters and the role of police in maintaining law and order during such situations. Some officers from countries like Maldives, Nepal and Bhutan were also part of the group.
The trainees said that the visit was useful and helped them understand real-life rescue operations. Officials said such field visits improve decision-making skills and teamwork, which are important for handling disasters effectively.
