U’khand to recruit 365 assistant professors for Govt medical colleges

The Medical Education department has initiated the process of recruitment for 365 posts of assistant professors in the government medical colleges of the State. The move aims to fill vacant posts of faculty members in the medical colleges of the State. The State has five government medical colleges in Dehradun, Haldwani, Srinagar, Haridwar and Almora.
The government is also planning to open medical colleges in Pithoragarh and Rudrapur from the next academic session and for this it has started recruitment of faculty members. Following the recruitment requisition from the department, the State administration will soon ask the Uttarakhand Medical Services Selection Board to start the process of recruitment.
The Health minister Dhan Singh Rawat said that the objective of the government is to ensure that there are 100 per cent permanent faculty members in the government medical colleges of the State.
He said that the recruitment on vacant 365 posts of assistant professors will be done for 27 departments in the medical colleges of Dehradun, Haldwani, Srinagar, Almora, Haridwar, Rudrapur and Pithoragarh.
The minister said that the backlog posts in the department wise roster have also been added in the recruitment drive which includes 115 posts of scheduled caste, 10 of scheduled tribe, 67 other backward classes, 37 economically weaker section. Apart from them 136 posts will be kept unserved, he informed.
The minister said that a total of 567 posts of assistant professors are approved in the government medical colleges of the State and against them 202 assistant professors are appointed. He said that the recruitment of new assistant professors will help in removing the shortage of the faculty members and prove beneficial for the students. The patients visiting the government medical college hospitals will also get the benefit of their service, he added.
