The Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) Hospital has obtained a fire No Objection Certificate (NOC). The principal of the hospital Dr Geeta Jain informed that this achievement paves the way for applications for postgraduate (PG) and super-specialty seats in the medical college. It is considered significant not only for the institution but also for the entire health infrastructure of Uttarakhand. Currently, a fire NOC is mandatory when applying for PG seats in medical colleges. The application deadline is March 31 and receiving the NOC on March 28 was a crucial step for the institute, she added.
Jain highlighted the actual need for PG seats in Uttarakhand, stating that the shortage of specialist doctors has posed a serious challenge for a long time in the hilly State. As a result, many patients must be referred to Delhi, Chandigarh or other large cities, which not only increases financial burdens but also results in delays during critical cases. In this context, increasing PG and super-specialty seats at the local level will directly enhance specialist availability, improve patient survival outcomes and promote regional healthcare equity. Jain emphasised that obtaining a fire NOC is not merely an administrative formality; it is a step towards decentralising health services in Uttarakhand and ensuring the local availability of specialist medical care.
