COAS stresses on multifaceted nature of modern security scenario

Chief of the Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi highlighted the multifaceted nature of the modern security scenario and cited Operation Sindoor to stress on the importance of coordination between diplomacy and decisive military action. He was speaking as the reviewing officer at the passing out parade of the Indian Military Academy (IMA) here on Saturday, which saw a total of 527 officer cadets of the 157th course passing out in the ceremony held at the Chetwode building ground, marking their beginning as officers in the Indian Army.

   This year, the passing out batch included 491 Indian cadets and 34 foreign cadets from 14 friendly countries. Reviewing the parade, the COAS highlighted the dynamic and multifaceted nature of the modern security environment, which increasingly spans across military, technological and societal domains. Citing Operation Sindoor, he stated that today’s warfare demands seamless coordination between diplomacy and decisive military action. He congratulated the newly commissioned officers for completing their tough training. Addressing the cadets, he praised their discipline, endurance and leadership qualities. He said that getting commissioned is not the end of training, but the beginning of a lifelong duty to serve the nation with honesty, commitment and selfless spirit.

   With the passing out of the 157th course, the IMA continued its proud tradition of producing officers who are ready to lead from the front. The cadets displayed excellent drill, coordination and confidence during the parade, winning appreciation from senior officers, families and guests present at the ceremony.

    During the event, several cadets were honoured for their outstanding performance. The Sword of Honour and Gold Medal, awarded to the best all-round cadet, was presented to Academy Cadet Adjutant Nishkal Dwivedi. The Silver Medal went to Battalion Under Officer Badal Yadav, while the Bronze Medal was awarded to Senior under Officer Kamaljeet Singh. In the Technical Graduate course, officer cadet Jadhav Sujit Sampat secured first position, while WCC Abhinav Mehrotra stood first in the Technical Entry scheme-46. The special commissioned officer course silver medal was awarded to officer cadet Sunil Kumar Chhetri.

   Among the foreign cadets, JUO Mohammad Safin Ashraf from Bangladesh secured first position in merit. For overall best performance during the Autumn Term 2025, the Chief of Army Staff Banner was awarded to Imphal Company. As per thration, the ceremony concluded with the pipping ceremony, where the cadets were officially commissioned as officers. With pride in their eyes and confidence in their steps, the newly commissioned officers took their first step into the Indian Army, ready to serve the nation with honour and dedication.
