9 live-in relationship applications under UCC in Haridwar

The district administration of Haridwar has so far received nine applications for registration of live-in relationship out of which three applications have been rejected. The administration has so far approved 6,035 applications under different services under the Uniform Civil Code (UCC).

 This information was provided by the chief development officer (CDO) Ved Prakash to the district magistrate Karmendra Singh on Wednesday when the latter reviewed the UCC registrations.

The CDO said 764 such applications are pending while 528 applications were rejected due to different reasons, 55 are in auto appeal and explanation is sought in 220 cases.

The DM said that the State government has implemented the UCC for forging unity, equality and uniformity in the society under which the registration of marriage, divorce, marriage annulment, live-in relationship, inheritance and will have been made compulsory. A fee of Rs 250 will be charged for these registrations for applications within six months of implementation of UCC and after that a sum of Rs 2500 will be charged. The DM appealed that all eligible people should compulsorily register on the UCC portal.
