The issue of contaminated drinking water, caused by mixing of drinking water pipelines and sewage in Chuku Mohalla area near Clock Tower, has recently been addressed, claimed an assistant engineer from the south division of Dehradun, Uttarakhand Jal Sansthan, Raghvendra Dobhal. Notably, according to the reports, the locals had been voicing concerns regarding the supply of contaminated water from the pipelines. Things had turned serious when they raised the allegation that human waste had made its way into the drinking water, leading to continual health problems for them. As per the locals, the situation had worsened significantly over the past 15 to 20 days.  The locals further said that the department had sent several officers to address the issues. “They visited the sites but failed to find out the source of the contamination,” a local told this correspondent.

Meanwhile, the contaminated water supply has raised questions about the services provided by UJS.  Commenting on this matter, Dobhal said that they have recently addressed the complaints regarding the issue at the identified locations. “Instances of contaminated water were observed in two to three lanes of the said area. The officers who visited the sites identified the sources of the problem. They noticed that the water supply connections of many residents near a sewer and drainage systems were broken which led to contamination of water,” he added.

He stated that after the issues had been identified, things had been repaired and the problem had recently been resolved. “If similar incidents occur in other areas, people can reach out to the officials concerned or file a complaint through the UJS toll-free numbers 18001804100 and 1916. The problems will be fixed promptly,” he assured.

“If there are faults or errors in the quality of water supply in any area, we suspend supply and provide tanker service to affected residents before resolving the issue,” he added.
