World Acro Championship & Aero Show 2024 commences in Tehri Lake

In latest news from Uttarakhand, the four-day World Acro World Championship and Aero Show 2024- organised by the Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board (UTDB) with the support of M/s Paragliding Mantra, Pune (Maharashtra) and the Tehri district administration with the aim of developing the Tehri Lake area as a hub of acro paragliding- is beginning on Thursday.
Acro sports enthusiasts hailing from 10 countries- Turkey, the United States of America, Czech Republic, Spain, Russia, Switzerland, France, Iran, Hungary and Albania- aside from India are participating.
The State Tourism department secretary/CEO, UTDB Sachin Kurve said that 30 foreign Acro Pilots, 102 Indian SIV pilots, 25 Tandem Pilots and five BASE Jumpers have registered, adding that his department is committed to promoting Uttarakhand as a premier tourist destination for adventure and water sports leveraging the State’s natural beauty and cultural heritage. “The Tehri Acro Festival not only promises an exhilarating experience for participants but also serves as a platform to showcase paragliding to the international community, firmly placing Tehri on the global paragliding map,” he said.
Notably, the department organised a five-day International Acro Festival at Tehri Lake in 2023 in which about 150 paragliders, including 54 from 26 countries, participated.
“In view of the immense success of the Acro Festival-2023, this year the Acro World Championship and Aero Show 2024 is being organised in Tehri on an even bigger scale with National SIV Championship being organised for the Indian pilot along with the World Acro Competition,” Kurve added.
He further stated that to make this event more attractive and to increase public participation in it, free tandem paragliding rides are being organised for the visitors and local people during the event for which interested persons would have to register themselves free of cost at the venue.

A total prize money of Rs 14.50 lakh will be given to the winners of the World Acro Championship and national level SIV competition. While the first prize for the World Championship is Rs 5 lakh the second and third prizes are Rs 3 lakh and Rs 2 lakh respectively. For the National SIV Championship, the first prize is Rs 2 lakh while the second and third prizes are Rs 1.5 lakh and Rs 1 lakh respectively.
