One child dies, another rescued after being swept away in swollen drain

Tragedy struck in the Raipur area of Dehradun on Sunday afternoon when two children were swept away by the overflowing Shanti Vihar drain following continuous heavy rainfall. One child lost his life, while the other was rescued.
The officials informed that the incident occurred around 2:45 PM when the control room received a report of two children being carried away by the strong current. A police team, equipped with disaster management gear, reached the spot immediately and with the assistance of local residents, launched a rescue operation.
The police successfully pulled 10-year-old Ahil, a resident of Sapera Basti from the drain and rushed to the district hospital in a 108 ambulance. Doctors said that his condition was stable, as per the officials. They informed that the search continued for the second child, 12-year-old Salman, a resident of Jain Plot, Vani Vihar. His body was later recovered from Doon University Road in the Mothrowala area under Nehru Colony police station limits.
The body was sent to the mortuary at the district hospital for post-mortem and for further proceedings, they added.
