PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/ Dehradun

The spokesperson of All India Congress Committee (AICC), Alok Sharma has said that the government should immediately dissolve the National Testing Agency (NTA) for its failure to prevent paper leak in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) -2026. He added that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe in the case should be monitored by the Supreme Court.

Addressing a press conference at Congress Bhawan on Thursday, Sharma said that the track record of the NTA has always been dubious as six out of 14 major examinations conducted by it since its creation in 2017 were hit by paper leaks. He claimed that the NTA has no legal status and it is equivalent to a Non-Government Origination (NGO) as it is registered under the Registration of Societies Act-1860. Sharma also claimed that the NTA was created by the RSS and BJP in order to hijack the selection process of the key entrance examinations of the country.

Sharma claimed that the NEET paper was also out in 2021 and 2024. He said that in 2024, he was one of the petitioners who fought for the cause of the students in the Supreme Court. Sharma said that in 2024, the CBI failed to file a charge sheet within 90 days due to which the accused were acquitted.  He said that this time too the investigation seems to be heading in the direction of 2024. Sharma demanded that the union Education minister Dharmendra Pradhan should be sacked and the government should constitute a joint parliamentary committee (JPC) to investigate the paper leak cases of the NTA.  He also demanded that the government should give a compensation of Rs 10,000 to every NEET aspirant this year.

State spokesperson Pratima Singh, Sheeshpal Bisht and Manoj Saini accompanied Sharma.
