Security stepped up for Shah’s two-day Uttarakhand visit

Union Home minister Amit Shah is slated to arrive in Uttarakhand on a two-day visit on January 21. He is scheduled to attend various events in Rishikesh and Haridwar during his visit.
According to officials, on the afternoon of January 21, Shah will attend a programme at Geeta Bhawan, Swargashram in Rishikesh. On the following day, he will inaugurate the Patanjali emergency and critical care hospital in the morning at Patanjali Yogpeeth in Haridwar. After this event, he will pay respects at the ‘Akhand Jyoti’ at Gayatri Teerth in Shantikunj and later attend the Bhagwati Devi Sharma birth centenary year programme being organised by the Gayatri Parivar.
Meanwhile, with the Union Home minister slated to attend a total of four events in Dehradun and Haridwar districts, the authorities have stepped up security arrangements. In Haridwar, the police and district administration are focusing on ensuring tight security considering the three events slated to be attended by Shah here. The director general (Intelligence & Security) Abhinav Kumar and other senior officers briefed the police personnel on VVIP duty. District magistrate Mayur Dixit and other officials of the administration were also present in the joint briefing. The personnel on duty were directed to ensure zero tolerance for any gaps during the minister’s visit.
Kumar said that considering the importance of the programme, any information or inputs about any suspicious activity should be communicated to senior officials without delay. Special focus should be laid on behaviour, discipline and turnout while on duty during the event, he said. Haridwar senior superintendent of police Pramendra Dobhal said that the Union minister’s programmes are proposed to be held at three locations in the district.Stressing that all personnel should reach their point of duty on time, he said that no negligence will be tolerated during the event. Dixit directed the police and administrative personnel to work in coordination while also ensuring swift exchange of information and timely completion of all necessary arrangements. ADG (Law and Order) V Murugesan said that entry will be allowed only with a pass and after checking at the venues of the events. A bomb disposal squad, anti-terrorist squad, personnel of the National Disaster Response Force and State Disaster Response Force along with Provincial Armed Constabulary will also be deployed.
