A Vigilance team arrested two officials of Sitarganj tehsil on Wednesday for allegedly accepting bribes from a complainant. The arrests were made during a trap operation at their offices.

As per the Vigilance sources, the complainant had alleged that the revenue Amin named Madan Lal Sharma and senior assistant Bhupendra Singh had demanded money from him. Sharma allegedly demanded Rs 10,000, while Singh, Rs 6,000 on the pretext of cancelling an order attaching his land, releasing the land from attachment and stopping recovery proceedings related to an RC issued for his wife’s Kisan Credit Card loan.

Upon checking the complaint, the Vigilance team found the allegations prima facie correct and subsequently, the Haldwani Vigilance team planned a trap operation.

The team caught Sharma red-handed while he was allegedly accepting Rs 8,000 and Rana while accepting Rs 6,000 from the complainant. Both officials were arrested from their offices at Sitarganj tehsil.

Vigilance director, V Murugesan appealed to the people to report corruption through the department’s toll-free number 1064 or WhatsApp helpline 9456592300.
