UPNL workers’ families to join stir at Parade Ground

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun

Workers from the Uttarakhand Purva Sainik Kalyan Nigam Limited (UPNL) plan to intensify their protest by involving their family members at the demonstration taking place at Parade Ground. For several days, UPNL employees have been holding protests at this location in suppoof their demands. Their actions stem from long-standing grievances, particularly the need for regularisation of their employment and equal pay for equal work.

The ongoing protests have disrupted operations in various State departments and institutions including at the Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) hospital, where sanitation  conditions have worsened. The officiating president of the UPNL Federation of Employees, Mahesh Bhatt informed that the protests have been ongoing around the clock for the past few days. During this period, the State government made the decision to establish a cabinet sub-committee to tackle the ongoing issues. However, the workers have refused this proposal and are instead demanding direct action. Bhatt pointed out that many days have passed without any response from the authorities, despite the prolonged nature of the protests.

In light of this situation, they have chosen to intensify their demonstration, which will now include the family members of UPNL workers in the protest at Parade Ground. Bhatt said that they are currently focusing on including the families of UPNL workers residing in Dehradun rather than those from other districts. He emphasised that this protest will persist until the State government takes decisive action on their demands.
