PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/ Dehradun
Chief spokesperson of Uttarakhand Congress Garima Dasauni has said that the strikes by Uttarakhand Purva Sainik Kalyan Nigam Limited (UPNL) workers and Dehradun Bar Association has adversely affected the general public but the State government is continuing to adopt an apathetic attitude on the issue. She said that the strike by the advocates has created problems for the people as work in the courts has got adversely affected.
Dasauni said that the strike of UPNL workers has affected all services including the essential Health services in the State. She said that the UPNL workers are demanding equal pay for equal work and security and the courts too have rejected the pleas of the government but even then the government is continuing to adopt a confrontationist attitude. The Congress leader said that by invoking the provisions of Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA) the State government is trying to crush the justified agitation of the UPNL workers.
She said that the State government is also indifferent towards the genuine demands of the advocates. There is no place for chambers in the new court compound and the advocates are forced to vacate their old chambers. The government wants to build other things such as Rain Basera (shelter home) in place of old chambers of advocates.
She said the Congress leaders including Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Ganesh Godiyal and former PCC president Pritam Singh have extended support of the party to the agitation of Dehradun Bar Association. Dasauni claimed that now many BJP leaders have started extending their support to the advocates.
