Elderly man seeks police protection over alleged harassment by family

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE /Dehradun

A 69-year-old retired man in Dehradun approached the police on Tuesday, alleging harassment by his wife and daughters. Clement Town resident Manzoor Ahmad Qudsi said that he has been facing mental and physical torture for a long time.

According to his complaint, his wife and daughter allegedly abused him, damaged household items, and even locked him inside a bathroom on March 31, forcing him to call the police for help. He claimed that although the police rescued him at that time, no further action was taken on his written complaint.

The elderly man also stated that he had earlier brought clothes and food for his family on the occasion of Eid, but his wife allegedly threw the items away and misbehaved with him. Due to the ongoing dispute, he is now living in a hotel with the help of a friend, despite having built his own house. He further alleged that his important documents, cash, mobile phones and other belongings are still in the possession of his wife and daughters.

The complainant, who is also suffering from health issues, has requested police protection and help in recovering his belongings. He also expressed fear for his life, saying that he may be harmed if he returns to live with his family.

On his complaint, the Dehradun senior superintendent of police Pramendra Singh Dobal has directed the Clement Town police in-charge to take strict action in the matter. He also instructed that the elderly man should be ensured entry into his house.
