Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) Ganesh Godiyal has said that the Union Home minister Amit Shah should direct the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to initiate a probe in the Ankita Bhandari murder case. Addressing a press conference at the All India Congress Committee (AICC) headquarters in New Delhi on Wednesday, Godiyal said that the CBI should also put the points covered by it in its probe in the public domain.
The PCC president said that the CBI has not yet officially endorsed the recommendation for a probe made by the State government in the Ankita Bhandari murder case. He said that CBI’s no response even after 17-18 days of the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami’s announcement raises suspicion of a cover up in the case.
He said that the Congress party is consistently demanding that the CM should bring the recommendation for CBI probe and its terms of references in public domain but he has paid no heed to the demand.
Godiyal claimed that he has learnt from reliable sources that the State government is now trying to limit the scope of the investigation by CBI to the VIP involved in the case. He said that the State government’s intentions regarding the investigation into the Ankita Bhandari murder case are unclear and the government has been trying to cover up the investigation since day one.
The PCC president said that the documents received from a right to information (RTI) query show that the government prosecutor protested the plea of Narco test by the accused in the Ankita Bhandari murder case. “ It may sound unusual, but the fact is that the accused wanted their NARCO test but the government contested this demand. It appears that the government feared that the Narco test of the accused would expose many hidden facts and involvement of its leaders,’’ he said.
