PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/ Pantnagar

Governor Lt Gen Gurmit Singh (retd), who is also the chancellor of the Govind Ballabh Pant University of Agricultural and Technology (GBPUAT), has extended the tenure of the vice- chancellor of the university, Manmohan Singh Chauhan through an order issued on Tuesday. Chauhan’s three-year term is ending on August 28. The process of selecting a regular VC is in progress at the government level, but the extension has been given to the incumbent in view of the possibility of the selection taking time to complete. The GBPUAT officials said that this would ensure continuity in the academic and administrative activities of the university.

Under Section 11(6) (g) of the Uttar Pradesh Agricultural and Technology Universities Act, 1958 (Adapted for the State of Uttarakhand), the tenure of the VC has been extended for a period of six months from August 29 or till the appointment of a new VC whichever is earlier.
