Congress spreading disinformation on new version of MNREGA, alleges BJP

The Bharatiya Janata Party has said that the Congress is spreading disinformation on the new version of MNREGA. It clarified that the Central assistance will remain 90 per cent in Himalayan States like Uttarakhand. Rejecting allegations of corruption in the State levelled by the Congress, the BJP questioned how thousands of hectares were encroached upon if the land laws were satisfactory in the past.

The BJP State media in-charge Manveer Singh Chauhan said that the Central government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi has brought about changes in MNREGA to boost development in rural areas according to the aspirations of the people. The Agriculture ministry is aiming to make the scheme more effective and practical. These changes should not be viewed from a political perspective, he said. Following the latest changes, 125 days of work will be guaranteed instead of 100 days of work. Along with weekly payment of wages, provisions have also been made to prevent misuse of the allocated funds. The allegations of Central assistance being reduced are incorrect, he said, while adding that the ration will remain 90:10 in all Himalayan States including Uttarakhand.  Referring to allegations of corruption levelled by Pradesh Congress Committee president Ganesh Godiyal, the BJP State media in-charge rejected these stating that repeating a lie 100 times does not make it a fact. The Congress is making such baseless allegations only for political gain. He claimed that the State government under chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami is working on the policy of zero tolerance for corruption with stern action having been taken against senior and junior officials found involved in corruption. The Congress aims to dent the image of the State by playing the politics of lies and confusion but the people are aware and will not let such attempts succeed, Chauhan said.
