Police launch month-long Operation Crackdown, 2,186 persons verified

Dehradun police started a one-month verification drive Operation Crackdown from February 15 on the directions of director general of police Deepam Seth. The police carried out a large-scale checking campaign in both urban and rural areas of the district on Monday.

During the campaign, police verified a total of 2,186 persons. In which 191 persons were found to be lacking proper verification or had not verified their tenants and were challaned under Section 83 of the Police Act with a total fine of Rs 19,10,000 being imposed on them. 

Police said that 28 persons were found to be suspicious and brought to the police station for questioning. Under Section 81 of the Police Act, action was taken against 55 persons and a total fine of Rs 13,250 was collected from them.

The Dehradun senior superintendent of police Pramendra Dobal directed all station house officers to form police teams in their respective areas and undertake the verification drive efficiently.  He said that the verification drive will continue in the coming days to ensure safety and maintain law and order in the district.
