Police chase fleeing pilgrims, then ferry them to hospital

In a piquant turn of events, police faced a double task while dealing with some pilgrims from Madhya Pradesh who had got embroiled in a dispute with a hotelier at Govindghat. They first chased the pilgrims fleeing in their car and then had to send them to hospitals after their car overturned, leaving them injured. 

The hotelier said that as some disputes had arisen with the pilgrims, the latter had fled in the car in which they had come. “We informed the police and they chased the car,” he said.

Police said that upon being informed of the pilgrims fleeing in their car, they had started chasing the car.   As the car reached Marwari bridge, the car crossed the barrier and left for Jyotirmath. It was then that the car overturned and crashed into a field.

Police arrived at the spot and saw them injured. They then ferried the injured pilgrims to the community health centre, Jyotirmath. 

“There were seven people in the vehicle and three of them were seriously injured. One of the three seriously injured was a septuagenarian,” said the SP, Chamoli, Sarvesh Panwar, adding that the seriously injured pilgrims had been referred to the district hospital in Gopeshwar after being provided with first aid  at the CHC. He further said that the matter was being investigated.
