STF arrests man with fake arms licence

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE /Dehradun

The Special Task Force (STF) arrested a man for using a fake arms licence in Dehradun on Saturday. The accused has been identified as Amit Yadav, a resident of Shimla Bypass area. According to STF officials, the team received information that some people were getting fake arms licences made from other States. These fake licences were later being registered in Uttarakhand using forged documents and used as real ones.

After getting this information, STF started an investigation and registered a case at Clement Town police station.  During the investigation, it was found that a particular licence was shown as transferred from Amritsar in Punjab and registered in the Dehradun district magistrate’s records in 2017. However, further inquiry revealed that this licence was never actually issued from Amritsar.

Based on this, the STF team tracked the accused and arrested him near Lakkadmandi in Dehradun. One fake arms licence was recovered from his possession. STF senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh said that such fake licences are being made on a large scale in other States. These are then used by criminals to carry illegal weapons. He also said that STF is now investigating the case further to find out other people involved in this racket. The STF is closely monitoring all arms licence holders who have transferred licences from other States, especially those with suspicious or criminal backgrounds. Officials have warned that strict action will be taken against those involved in such illegal activities.
