34,427 green cards issued for Char Dham Yatra till June 8

The Transport department has issued a total of 34,427 green cards from March 29 to June 8 for commercial vehicles. The green card system for commercial passenger vehicles mandates that vehicles involved in the Char Dham Yatra must be technically fit and safe. It also confirms vehicle fitness and enables swift access to vehicle details during emergencies.
Regional transport officer (Enforcement and Road Safety) Dehradun division, Anita Chamola informed that as of June 8, a total of 34,427 green cards have been issued, including 19,808 cards for commercial vehicles from Uttarakhand and 14,619 cards for vehicles from other States. The office-wise (RTO/ARTO) distribution of green cards shows Rishikesh office issued the highest with 10,437 cards, followed by Haridwar office with 7,733 cards. Similarly, 6,186 green cards were issued by Dehradun, 5,051 by Roorkee, 1,338 by Rudraprayag, 932 by Karnaprayag, 870 by Kotdwar, 321 by Uttarkashi, 296 by Ramnagar, 285 by Pauri, 278 by Vikasnagar, 267 by Haldwani, 128 by Tanakpur, 93 by Rudrapur, 79 by Tehri, 46 by Pithoragarh, 38 by Almora, 29 by Kashipur, 12 by Ranikhet and eight by Bageshwar. This distribution covers green cards for both Uttarakhand and out-of-State commercial vehicles, she said.
According to officials, the validity of the green card is till November. Vehicle owners can apply for a green card online by visiting the Transport department’s official website at http://www.greencard.uk.gov.in and paying the prescribed fee. The green card is issued after a technical inspection of the vehicle at the nearest transport office.
